How to make light beam with volume scatter correctly?

how many objects are there ?
I can see to planes at 90 deg

and is there another one for the beam image ?

I think 2 plane would be enough, there are some tutorial on how to make fire in Blender also used this technique, they only use two plane as well.

only the 2 planes with same image/material.just duplicated and rotated.you can ofcourse put a spotlight additional in your car model for example.this is just to fake the beam.

tip,you can stretch the plane/beam,just move the edge or scale it for longer beams.

so the camera has to look at one of the plane transp with beam image to make the beam appears!

yes otherwise you get a overlapping effect.now you can control,that on the grazing angle the beam is mainly invisible(top view invisible if you look at the side view),and if you look from top the side is invisible.
