How to Select face by attribute (vertex color) and Using mask color by color in Sculpt mode

Hello, I’m currently looking into how to use attribute (vertex color) to select vertex or faces.

My ultimate goal is to find out the number of faces and vertex in an area I have selected. (It doesn’t have to be 100% accurate because of the color boundaries.)

Objects are divided by color like an ID map, and I want to select only the area for that color.

Below is the test file.

  1. I applied Texture image to Attribute (Vertex color) by Bake.

  1. I was able to select by color using mask color by color in Sculpt mode.

mask by color_hide

  1. I pressed H to hide with only the red part selected, but both the red and yellow disappeared at the same time.

  1. I think it’s a problem with the Face sets, but I don’t know the exact reason.

  2. If they are hidden or selected exactly by color, I think I can check the number of Faces and Vertices in Edit mode.

Any advice on my method or how to select Faces by color?

There is a setting in the N-panel, where you can set the color treshold. I guess your’s was to high, as yellow and red are closer together on the rgb spectrum

Thanks for reply!

As you can see in the gif file below, only the selection by color is successfully.

mask by color_1

However, both colors are hidden together.

When hiding, there is an option called Face sets visilblity as shown in the picture below. Is this related?

did you create a faceset from the mask?

When I create Face set from Masked, only the desired area was hidden.
This is my first time using this function. I wonder how it works.
I’ll have to look it up. Thank you.

If you are going to look into face sets you might want to install this add on too:

It’s pretty neat. You can convert facesets into other attributes with it. (so kind of the other way around) And the author is on the forum as well, I think.
