Would anyone know how to do this without a grease pencil, only by using FXs or something for smearing like in cartoons? Also, painting textures on the smear. I always want to match the style of cartoons.

Maybe just animate this and compose the images by different ammount over time and using speed vector pass… the in between face by multiple mix of images at certain steps (so no painting needed) …?
Can you show more about that? I’m no expert at Blender.

i thought you are more a model and animate type of user than a painter… and know something about this. So i suspect you have to read a little more in the docu and explore the possibilities of blender.
