How to upgrade blender

I did some research and I found this thread: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=94212

Supposedly I don’t need to uninstall the old version to get a newer version, but Blender may have changed since then, so, just to be safe, can someone confirm this for me?

That is an old thread, but yeah its fine, go ahead. Most people have two or three versions. Just be sure to put it in its own folder…
