How to you increase the camera view?

Hello,

I have created a little scene and when I click ‘0’ to go to the camera mode. My scene doesn’t fit in. Do you guys have any idea how can I increase the camera view? There was some option called ‘aspect ratio’ I guess! I tried that but thats very limited.

You will have to position the camera further away from the object.

OR

If you can’t go back you could always change the focal length. Lowering it a little may do the trick…

as lucifer said, you have to move the camera away from the object. So from camera view (numpad0):

  • select the camera (the big square), press G (to grab), and press middle button of your mouse & drag
    or
  • select the camera, press G to grab, press Z two times (to move the camera along its local Z axis), and drag.

also make sure the camera is set to the dimensions you want
(ie. 640X480, 1024x1024, or whatever size you want it to render)

So when you say Camera is set to dimension, what you are saying is to set the Render Resolution right?

“Aspect ratio” is the proportion of a screen’s width to its height.

“f-stop” controls whether the lens is “telephoto” or “wide angle.”

Although the usual temptation is to “get everything into the picture,” sometimes exactly the opposite approach works better: “get closer.” A picture with too many things in it tends to have no definite subject; and, the things in it are just too numerous and too small. The feeling is that of a scene that is “really not about anything at all.”

You can set 640480 or 1280960 or 6400*4800, you´ll always see the same with the camera, just the resolution changes as long as you keep the aspect ratio. ^^
So if your scene fits perfectly in a 16:9 aspect ratio, you can change resolution all you want, you´ll always see the same.

What the camera “sees” is determined by the distance to the object, and what every cameraman uses… the FOV, or focal lenght.

Comparing Blender Camera to a Real Digital Camera, the render resolution is nothing more but an aspect ratio and DCC chip resolution, while the positioning is obvious and the FOV/focal lenght is similar to the real thing.

When you’re in the camera view, press Shift+F and you can “fly” your camera around to where you want it. Use your scroll wheel to speed up forwards or backwards, move the mouse cursor around to steer. Left-click to commit the camera change or press the escape key to return to where you started.
In your case, you may just want to press Shift+F and fly backwards for a bit. But if you want to play around with finding a nicer framing (as sundialsvc4 suggests) then this is a fun way to fiddle around with that.
