…it also benefits those that can’t script/code… lots of new nodes will be available to people who don’t build there own blender and can’t get there head around patching the source…
It puts material nodes within reach of those that script a bit, this means we can expect more community developed nodes that can be distributed and used easily.
The easier it is to do this the better for blender. Lightwave’s functionality has been fed by a steady stream of community scripts for years. Flay.com for lightwave is essentially a plugin and script database with some news added.
tortoise makes all of that easy on windows thank god.
py nodes expands blenders flexibility, one can make his or her own nodes with little hardcore coding knowledge.

Blender has a bunch of nodes already.
What kind of nodes are we talking about here?
Programmable shaders. Similar in concept to Renderman’s. Heck, if you have the skills (and want to endure the horrible overhead), you can code an emulator and load .SLO shaders if you want.
