Hello!

I hope you might take the time to help me find a decent desktop to render Blender. Total noob …sigh

Is this machine suitable …

AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600G
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 (12 GB)

Yeah, that’s pretty good :slight_smile: you for sure need more RAM, though, at least 32 GB for Blender

Good thinking. If you can go higher on the CPU, I would recommend it- it’ll bottleneck your GPU as is. I’d go for a 5800 or 5900, or even a 5950, whatever your budget is

You should be able to get a 5700 and stay in budget, although I’m not sure what the USD/CAD rate is these days :slight_smile:

Sorry for the late reply. Exchange rate is stupid, ha!

I decided on …

AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
512GB SSD
16GB RAM
RTX 3060

… when the unit arrives I’ll up the SSD to 1TB and at least double the RAM.

Cost was about 1050.00 USD … 1400.00 CAD.

Shopping around now for a decent monitor, ha!

You don’t need the 5700G processor since you’ll have a discrete gpu. Have you placed the order?

Of course you’ll be able to run Blender. See if the 5700X is cheaper in you country. If it is, go for it. If it isn’t keep the 5700G.

So what’s the performance difference between the 5700G and the 5700X?

This on-sale desktop is a pre-built unit from HP OMEN 25L series.

I cancelled the order and still have a couple of days within their boxing week sales time left re-purchase if I can’t find 5700X.

Oh man… couple things, and please know that I’m saying this with your best interest at heart:

Don’t buy pre-builts from Best Buy. Ever. They put notoriously bad parts in and they’re infamous for using parts that are incompatible with each other. They also have horrible customer support and they will not help you at all.

They also overcharge, by a LOT. You’re getting ripped off at the moment. These parts:

AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
512GB SSD
16GB RAM
RTX 3060

Shouldn’t be costing you 1050 USD. I could buy that GPU and CPU right now for 547 dollars. 500 dollars for a 512 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM + case is absolutely ridiculous. I could buy the SSD and the RAM right now for a grand total of 636 USD. A case is about 80, usually, that puts you at 716 USD. You’re overpaying by 300 dollars.
