Good face model also. Now when you have a very good start you can develop the character further and improve your skills even more.

Yes, looking good so far! I am trying out my first human model experiments as well and, having already scrapped several attempts, was wondering where you found it best to start the process. It seems that it is like a chess match to get the mesh to flow correctly, but my opening books are terrible and keep leading me to dead ends.

This one is pretty widely accepted as one of the best modeling tut’s out there. It’s done in 3DS, but it’s not hard to follow in Blender if you are familiar with the basics of the program:
