I love the tiny clip that you’ve done here, and the modeling of the machine is terrific. I would love to see this expanded into a short-film that actually demonstrates how these machines work.
Last year, a local short line railroad near our house embarked on a project to rehabilitate a section of roadway and to install continuous welded steel rails in place of the frog-plated pieces they had been using on this stretch. So, I saw some of these machines in action, from a distance, and I have always wondered how they actually work.
I was part of a short film, explaining this to the railway workers for the company I worked for. I did the rigging and animation on this machine (im quite good at mechanical rigging)

To me, one of the most amazing and exciting powers of 3D animation is how it can take a machine or an industrial process – even one that no longer exists and never will again – and demonstrate to you in detail exactly how it works or worked.
Blender, today, gives you the ability to visualize that, in awesome detail (if you like), and still it costs nothing. Oh, the power of “open source.” (Please continue to donate …)
