importing .blend files?

hello all this is my first post:D i’m not sure if this is in the right spot or not so sorry if it isn’t. i’ve been wondering if there is a quick and easy way to import a .blend file (specifically an object) from another blender project into a new one.

Appending. Press Shift+F1 and you’ll open a file browser window. Look the .blend file with the object you want to import and clik on it - now you can browse the file like a directory. Go in Objects, click on the object you want to import and then click on Load Library. The object will be in the same layer it was on in the other file.

Use File Append (SH-F1), then LMB on a filename, then (usually), you’ll want to append from the Object section of the file. If you append from the Object section, then any materials, IPO’s etc that are linked to that object are imported. It is possible to import the separte “components” directly by navigating to other parts of the file, i.e. Material, Ipo, Action … etc.

Umm I have often wondered whaether you could do this… I tried this multiple time in blender 2.42a and and, although i could get to the stage of clicking “load library” nothing happened afterwards - would this be something im doing wrong?
