Hi! I’ve been trying the Asset library and Catalogues following the documentation that’s currently available here:
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/files/asset_libraries/introduction.html#design-limitations
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/files/asset_libraries/catalogs.html#creating-catalogs
I’ve successfully created a catalogue wich contains a collection composed of a very basic character rig and it’s sub-collections and parts (just for testing purposes) and I can import and use the rig without problems.
However, since I use Object constraints for some empties and lattices for this character (as part of the projected eyes I’m using for this rig) I’ve noticed that the object constraints for these do not import alongside the objects themselves.
As a general guide of how I’m importing the collection, I’m doing the following:
- Drag the Asset from the custom library into a brand new .blend file. My default for importing is “Append (Reuse Data)”
- Drop the asset inside the blend file
- Press CTRL + A, then select “Make instances real”
- The rig, alongside the control shapes, import successfully.
I’m able to move and pose my character. Bone constraints are also imported. Object modifiers, materials and mesh data import. However, object constraints do not import. Is there any options to also import these?
I already think adding bones for these objects and then applying the same constraints that the objects have to the new bones would circumvent this issue, but there’s probably a edge case where this is not possible and I’ll like to know any alternatives, in case I’d need them in the future. Besides, sometimes adding a brand new part of the rig just to make some objects successfully inherit the rotations and location of bones may seem a little bit overkill in other use-cases.
I’m out of time now, but I’ll be glad to provide .blend files if it’s necessary to thinker with it.
