Importing Hair Grooms from Houdini to Blender

Hey everyone,

I’ve been really in love with Houdini’s grooming tools, but I ultimately still do final scene assembly/rendering in Blender. Is there any way to export a groom from Houdini and attach it to a mesh (identical to the one I did the grooming on in Houdini) so that it deforms and behaves the same as Blender’s own particle hair guides? Just parenting the hair to the head can work fine for simple top-of-the-head grooms, but that method falls apart for stuff like eyebrows and beards that have to deform with the character’s skin.

Currently my only viable pipeline is exporting the finished character animation from Blender to Houdini as an Alembic, baking out the hair animation in Houdini, and then exporting that into Blender. The downside is that it adds a ton of extra steps, as well as a MASSIVE Alembic file that Blender hates working with (not to mention having to re-add the materials to the groom each time, etc.)

Any pipeline/addon recommendations are much appreciated!

I don’t know if this would work for you but you can give it a try…

Thanks! I’ll check that out and report back.
