Evil gacha game Zenless Zone Zero does a fanart contest once a year called Drip Fest and I decided to make an animation for it. I’m pretty low on time at the moment so I had to cut a lot of corners to make it in time for the deadline but overall I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Here’s more of a full shot of the room, there’s nothing crazy just a lot of texture painting and a little bit of grease pencil. Shader is just the principled bsdf with the textures also plugged in to the emission at 0.100 strength.
Same with the other environment, also all the character models are from the game and provided for the competition, I only made the environments and animation.
The part where he jumps down at the beginning is pulled off with a big animated texture. He doesn’t actually go down but there’s a lot of camera, background and character movement involved to make it look not stiff. It’s my first time trying out this type of thing and it’s way harder than I thought it would be.
The gun fire is physical and part of the rig, I wanted it to be more fancy but I had to just do something fast for time reasons. Extra arms when he spins are also just planes with a texture that I manually animated.
The effect for the transition at the beginning is done not in video editing but rather in camera. I don’t know how to use masks and I don’t want to spend the time to learn so this is what I came up with. 2 planes with different clips and a funny shader to make the shot appear. There’s a vector math at 0.5 before the mapping node and a vector math at -0.5 after (both set to subtract) for anyone wondering how to center something with tex coordinates + mapping.
And that’s basically it, thanks for checking it out ![]()
