Insect

Hi all,

a insect I made based on various pictures found on the internet.
Did it mostly for training purposes, but liked the result.
My greatest consern is the eyes and head, but all comments are welcome.

This is my first finished model of some quality (I hope) and my first post here.

very nice :stuck_out_tongue: would be cool in an environment… like a rock or a leaf or something

is really looking nice(mechanical insect???)
if Mechanical: the texture on the head looks streched alittle but only a little…
if a mixture of real insects and trying to emulate a real insect;: too much specular or add some color variations(absorbtion of the light)

for my taste the antennas look too jaged
and as you said the eyes need some work

The model itself looks really good, the render needs to be brightened up a bit, use multiple lightsources and avoid absolute black areas(rgb 0,0,0) at all costs. Nothing is ever absolute black IRL.
There might be some issues with texture stretching but its kinda har to tell with such a dark render.

Not bad  For some reason, I feel a freestyle render would be quite cool…

The model appears slightly robotic…it doesn’t flow quite like the body of a real ant would. Textures and materials are decent though.

Thanks for all feedback,
I didnt intend for the robotic look, but tried to achive the metalic surfase som insects have. Worked a bit on the bodymaterial to give it a more “organic” feeling.
Softened the antenas to make them smoother curved.
Still need to work more on the eyes, but I think Im going to make that a seperate project when time allows it.

What type of… bug… is it??

@gregzaal: I kind of like it without enviroment. And to be honest my skills are not that god, I dont know how to make an enviroment (yet).

@Guss: I made it as a modeling exercise. I picked upp a leg here and a head there. Next time I probably make a ant (Formica Rufa). More challenging when you have to match real life.

you might want to improve the brightness and contrast a little bit…

@Guss: You´re right. I were a bit to enthustiastic about “the dark and scary”

Much better…

Tx …

The detail on the eye is very good!

very dark . add some brown

larmannjan: ? Brighter? Did you look at the last version?

If you make your background grey , I am sure that your insect pops out.
So we have a better look at the details. Verry nice work, wonderfull modelling.

The very first pic looked great, 2nd a lil better with lil extra coloring. Though after seeing soooooo freakin many things on ants, there’s quite the variety on looks they get including ones that are pitch black and rather robotic looking. So unlessyour aiming for a specific species, looks like your pretty much on the ball with your ant look.
