Ionic column scroll effect

Hey,
I’m looking around for about 6 hours now … I didn’t found any solution …
So I’m asking here:
How do I model the this scroll on top of an ionic column?
I downloaded a script for creating spirals but when I scale the extrusion of one of these is gets bigger on the outer rings and so on…
And i also have no idea, how to connect the spiral …
I’m quite desperate so I’m glad for any kind of help …
Here a link to a pic of several ionics columns:

Thanks a lot

PS: Sorry for my language

greek architecture is so beautiful, yes? So, you have the base, the column, and the finial/scroll top. I would make these three different objects, and then parent them together with the base as the parent. Moving the base then moves the column and the finial. The finial is the round cap and the spiral scroll. For the scroll, use a nurbs or bezier curve, and Extrude it, For the base, I would use a bevel and taper to get the shape. For the column, a bevel would do for the vertical flute shapes, or a banded (wood) vertical texture mapped to displace the column flutes. You can research bevel and taper in the wiki and tutorials.

Thanks, but you should keep in mind that I’m a noob  (which I forgot to mention in my post)
So my problem is: HOW to extrude the curve / spiral (created with the script mentioned above) so it goes into proper shape without massive triagles / incorrectable normals.

oic. sorry. here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Tutorials#Modelling are five tutorials on using curves to model solid objects, using bevel and taper.

Try this tutorial its spans over 3 pages

Thank you all, thats was just what i needed
