Is a large scale map a problem?

Heya nice and simple:P I’m wondering if a large map would be a problem in blender at all? Say 10km X 7km? Other than it being a lot of work:P

I don’t see why not. It’s all a matter of scale and detail. You can make a single blender unit a km. However, you’ll still be limited by polygons. My machine can’t handle much more than 500,000 to 1,000,000 before getting to slow. That’s like maybe 10,000 polys per square km, and that’s not alot. You might be able to get even more polys if you model different sections as different models, and put them on separate layers.

Hmmm well since the map will consist of 3 large islands then it would be better to split the 3 islands? So then different meshes should decrease the strain on blender. Ill keep that in mind Thanks:)

Different meshes wont really decrease the strain unless you have them on separate layers and only look at one layer at a time.
