Is it possible to give a curve a candy cane texture?

Hi Blenderheads!

I am trying to texture a curve to look like a candy texture. Doing that I run into the problem that the typical diagonal lines are only diagonal in one global direction and don’t follow my actual curve. (I.e. when the curve bends, the diagonal lines should bend with it accordingly).

Does anybody know if that is even possible to achieve in Blender? As far as I know there is no way to “unwrap” a curve, or is there?

What I need is something like this, see how the red diagonal lines change their orientation and distort depending on how the cane bends (that is a mockup done in illustrator).

Would be great if somebody could help me out!

Thanks!

havnt tried this but under the curve data panel in the texture space section of the menu, uncheck the auto texture space tick box and check the use for UV mapping tick box. see if that helps.

Thanks a lot Small Troll, that works perfectly!
And also, it is so much easier and faster to make this candy cane in Blender than doing the crappy mockup in Illustrator, haha.

Here is the entire setup if anybody is interested.
