Is there a way to make the color black on a color ramp be transparent on a mesh?

Tittle says everything, I just want the black area of this plane transparent, and it seems like a simple thing to do but I don’t know why its not working. I’ve been searching google for a few hours on a solution, this is the best I can come up with and it doesn’t work.

If you render in EEVEE you need to change the alpha blend mode in the material settings to somethin other than opaque

I should have mentioned that I’m using cycles.

try connecting the color output of the colorramp in the mix shader.
