I see that Reddit has some other valid points. The most important is that it has huge and fast traffic of thousands of users, which allows you to “gain access” to that stream of information and stay on the loop (acquire a broad picture about what happens in the 3D world). Finding about, cool techniques, looking at completed works, getting ideas about tools, figuring out solutions to project problems, finding new Youtube recommendations and such things.
More or less same goes for Twitter/X which has the same result and same style of posting and interacting (short and quick messages).
However as said this is mostly about “fast traffic” and it has nothing to do with practicing and educational purposes or mastering the craft, Reddit is about wasting time. The chances that you get top-quality feedback is almost zero, because those persons with master-skills are most likely working their 9-to-5 and have no time to spend on writing short and quick messages.
This kinda paints the picture, about what is the importance and meaning of social networks in general. And what is the difference with ‘deep’ and ‘complex’ communities like BA.

I’m a professional designer; i checked out r/designers (or whatever it’s called) at some point just for curiousity.
Post after post of “what is this design style called?” and similar pointless things. It read like a place that high school students go for a quick answer, when they’re doing a homework assignment.
Or various flavors of “how do i learn design” and/or “how do i use photoshop”.
Yeah - zero chance I was going to spend any of my time in that sub, offering any assitance or advice whatsoever.

Stackexchange is much better for finding information, but they have a zero BS policy going on with heavy moderation so that’s why more people hit reddit.

I briefly explored “Reddit” and quickly abandoned it. “Nice idea in concept,” but obviously censored.
Also, I distinguish between “social interaction” (“useless chatter …”) and actually solving a problem. (I have never solved any problem by listening to the background noise at a bar …)
(In non-CG areas …) I also find very little use for “StackExchange,” because it has no taxonomy, or structure, to its presentation. There are no “forums” nor “sub-forums.” I can “ask a question” and within fifteen minutes it will be “gone forever.” No one who might actually have the answer that I now seek will ever find (!) it. (Nor will I ever “find” their answer, even if it was precisely what I needed.)
Face It: The owners of these sites – just like “Facebook, etcetera” – obviously like these “entirely un-structured” presentations because they are "click-magnets." The more interactions there are, the more “advertising ‘impressions’ (!)” there are, and these people are making revenue from that.
Flame Money: “I’m getting mad 
at … somebody that I have never met, and never will meet!” (And it never even occurs to me to stop and wonder why …)
. . . Well, that sounds like "click-bait." If a “flame war” erupts, that means more money.
In other words: These sites are basically engineered(!) to encourage the sort of participant-behavior which produces more clicks = revenue from advertisers who do not yet know any better.
(Full disclosure: Insert any maxim from any “newspaper” or “magazine” that you’ve ever heard about. “Yellow journalism definitely sold gobs of newspapers,” and thus built “plenty of mansions” including a very-famous one on the west coast of the US.) Plenty of advertisers throughout history “didn’t know any better.”
Meanwhile – if you have an actual problem to solve, I kindly suggest that you should find the appropriate sub-forum and post it here. “Noise-free.”

Very obviously, there does come a time when the proper administrative action is to either lock or simply delete a thread. (I prefer the latter …)
