Is this forum better than the subreddit?

So I’ve been mostly hanging out the Blender subreddit but I’m getting quite annoyed at people cracking jokes for internet points instead of helping others.

I just don’t think it’s fun to make jokes from people’s mistakes, especially if they’re trying to learn something. It happened on my artwork and it kinda bummed me out but I feel worse about people that are beginners.

Is this forum less childish than that subreddit?

Yes, people here are more willing to actually help. The subreddit is a cesspool of jerks, and we don’t tolerate jerks here

Reddit used to be okey. Now everyone make same jokes just to get awards and internet points for some reason…

Here people are helpful and nice.

You may also consider joining some Discord server of your favorite content creators or group more specific for your Blender journey(if you make characters/monsters, fanart, enviroment, animation etc)

The subreddit is nearly useless. Fanboys in an echo chamber, some of whom continually share completely wrong and outdated techniques. The blind are leading the blind all day long. The endless stream of people that are so bored that all they can do is post their version of the same joke that someone posted yesterday.

And none of them know how to use a search engine.

Sure, there’s definitely some good art or advice posted there occasionally. But usually it gets drowned out by all of the above.

The only good thing about the subreddit is that it’s so bad, that led me to look for a quality place on the internet to read and talk about blender… Which is where we are now.

I’m on SpeedChar’s discord server but I don’t really like discords, I never interact enough to be part of the community ig

I agree about the blind comment. They give useless advice and the ones mocking you don’t even have any blender art on their profile. Like they’re mocking me and others but they don’t even know what they’re talking about? It’s really irritating

I used to really enjoy Reddit, but these days most subreddits appear to be overrun by karma bots. Over here we’re having more ‘real’ conversations (I hope  )

There’s definitely bots but I’ve been lurking the subreddit for 2-3 years and I feel like people have gotten quite meaner in the past year just to have more internet points

its pretty much the same. depending on the topic, sh!t can hit the fan real quick.
so keep your eyes open and dont bite the bait :v:

really? seems like other users replied differently to my post. got examples?

Don’t listen to them. They’re a known agitator and potstirrer here

that’s why I asked “really?” cuz it looked pretty suspicious lol

Wouldn’t say the discussions there are bad, but most people on reddit posts for karma

Reddit is filled with noobies, not the best place to get help from other professionals

Aside from what others said, reddit formula is way different. It’s ok for scrolling/consumption or at best very shallow anonymous exchanges. There are really no categories, searchability is tragic, etc.

The one thing that is annoying me personally about reddit nowadays is how shallow it has become and how much of a group think it’s there.

The subreddit isn’t well moderated so circlejerk culture has taken over. This forum is much better even if the moderation can be a bit too strict or too loose at times.

Just a warning about this forum: if you don’t like cheese (but that’s an impossible thing, come on) don’t tell anyone! :grimacing:

I love cheese! So I guess I’m good here haha

I make jokes at my own expense and mistakes all the time, but I don’t recall anybody else doing it here, especially not with any malice.
