Is This UV MAP Wrong Or Am I Just Dumb?

Hi, I am a new boy playing with Blender and I’m trying to create a packaging design, my workflow is create a box > mark the seams > uv unwrap > export uv map > create packaging design with vector graphics editor, but my uv map always looks like a lot of squares when should be like a lot of rectangles.

I believe the UV MAP should be like a lot of rectangles, maybe I am wrong.

PS: First I made the box from a cube, after a lot of frustration I decided create a plane and make the box of it, in the example above I used the latter.

I assume you forgot to apply scale to the object. Press ctrl+a in object mode and choose scale in the menu. Now do a new UV unwrap if the uv map still is squared. I hope it helps.

Make sure your object has all its coordinates applied before unwrapping it. To do that, select it in object mode, hit Ctrl+A, and hit “All Transforms.” Once you do that, unwrap it again.
