it doesn't render textures

hey, i’m new here and also new to blender.

i was wondering why blender sometimes doesn’t render my textures.
yesterday i made a full mesh of a couch. this morning i put on the textures and the rendering went perfect. then i saved and quit blender, later open the couch file again and then blender didn’t render the textures.

here’s the good render: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/gazimir2/zetel.jpg
and here’s the bad: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/gazimir2/zetel_bad.jpg

ps: sorry for my bad english D=

Hey, Welcome to the forums.

I guess it all depends how you textured it…

I noticed some of the textures are saved ( the cushions ). So its still rendering textures, just those 2 other textures aren’t turned on, or on the mesh any more or maybe are vertex painted black, there’s alot of causes.

I think if you open the file, the go to File-> Pack Data, then, File-> Save.
Then upload the .blend file somewhere (maybe http://www.rapidshare.com) and post the link and let people have a look the .blend file then that’s the easiest way to fix your problem.

actually, it looks like your light was not on a selected layer when you did the render.

okay.
i always texture my meshes with the uv image editor.
and the cushions aren’t textured yet :p.
anyway, what do you mean with “turned on” ?

it hasn’t got anything to do with layers, i’m shure

pack data… it says: “same images are painted on. these changes will be lost.”
do i have to upload the textures too?

Ok,
I downloaded it and had a look, it renders fine.
I’ll just explain something.

When you texture with the UV editor the .blend file uses the external image files to UV texture the mesh. Therefore, if you rename or move the UV image textures, then the .blend doesn’t know where to find them, so it can’t texture the mesh.

Packing data solves this problem as it makes a copy of your UV textures used on the mesh and stores them INSIDE the .blend file itself  (so that’s why you pack the data before uploading or giving it to people, so the textures are included already)

But your couch renders fine for me!! and looks great!! As you can see in the attached image.
By the way, if you want to get rid of the jagged edges click the OSA button under render, and leave it turned on.

hm, yes.
i didn’t moved or renamed the textures, but packing did solve the problem, thx!
so from now on if i textured anything, i always pack before i save…

now i’m asking your opinion. :stuck_out_tongue:
is this ‘project’ a good one for someone that has blender for two weeks?
i was pretty proud actually. :eyebrowlift:

I think you have done very well for only two weeks of using blender !!!
When I first started using blender I used the built-in procedural textures, and vertex paint mostly, but you’re already using UV textures, so that’s better than I was. :eyebrowlift2:
Keep reading peoples tutorials on texturing and lighting because I found the tutorials on these subjects are a great help for beginners.
If you come across more problems just search the forum, if you can’t find the answer just ask again in the forums.
Good luck!

I think i’ve read the BlenderCourse like 5 times. :stuck_out_tongue:
anyway, thx for the great help
