I have heard maybe one or two opinions on the comparison so far and I find it a bit weird. Personally I have mixed feelings about the Huang option. It makes the hair significantly darker and sometimes ends up being more noisy and slower to sample than Chiang. Although iirc it was supposed to be more realistic which I don’t particularly care about cause imo it looks worse on some colors.
So after looking this up on google and finding basically 0 opinions I want to ask what people here think about it.
Interesting … never used the hair shader… even also this option is mentioned already since 4.0 (!! (a while… ) → docs.blender 4.0 → shader_nodes → hair_principled → huang-model
…also (after quick search with the awesome forum search function (top right –icon))… it seems to be mentioned here on BA only in some developer news
The darkening is supposed to add realism. That is for a far-field, not close ups.
It is for a mass of long hair, long fur, seen entirely.
Or if you want more reflection from closed light source.
