Born in the year 1736, James Watt has been coined the father of the steam engine. However, as with most inventions, he was influenced by his contemporaries just as much. They equally laid the foundation stones necessary for what later became the defining moment of industrialisation. However, it was him who altered the design to be more efficient. Honouring his name, it became the official term for the physical unit of power in 1889, after seventy years of his death.

Sculpted from scratch in ZBrush using reference images and textured with Substance Designer, the whole scene was rendered inside Blender's Cycles engine.
Smoke effects were added by placing transparent video planes inside the scene.
