Japanese Zen interior

This is a photo study based on this [http://www.delightfull.eu/inspirations//wp-content/uploads/2016/09/japanesenaturallighting.jpg]

A higher quality version available here [https://www.artstation.com/artwork/BmePv4]

Used fspy to get an exact dimension, all models are done by me in Blender 2.8, while textures are from here [https://cc0textures.com/]. Used the Tatami mat texture from here as well [https://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/75131]

Also critiques are welcome

Looks like that tatami in your final render has a bit too strong bump (especially the rows of larger bundles).
Did you intentionally make the tatami in your render really old? In real life, those would be in pretty dire need of a replacement.
If you want a well-maintained looking tatami, then make it much glossier, and make it anywhere between a (fairly saturated) golden brown and a slightly dull grass green. The greener the fresher (and more expensive) the tatami.
If you are going for faux tatami, there are 2 types. 1 is made almost the same as a real tatami, but with plastic stands instead of bamboo. This means there’s a good deal less color variation, and the glossiness is a bit more even and sharp.
The second type is a soft material that is simply embossed with a tatami-like texture. The presence of the small fibres in relation to the large clusters is much larger, and there is much less displacement as a whole.

Wow thx for the detail feedback! I didn’t notice the weird tatami until now, as I am not sure how tatami looks before. Your comments definitely helps!

I featured you on BlenderNation, enjoy!

Thank you!

Hi, this is Lennart, the creator of CC0 Textures.
Would it be okay if I used this render in the next CC0 Textures Demo Reel? You would of course be credited.

oh sure! Thx for your website also, it helps me a lot!

I have a question. I wanna use the same texture as you. I found it on the same website as you. But when I open this blend file in Blender version 2.8, the texture aren’t the same, they are only the basic colors without any nodes… How did you get them?

oh because that blend file is using the old internal render engine which is now removed. I just use the tatami_bump.png and border_color.png inside the blend file and create 2 new materials

Ah thanks man. Let’s try it. Your render looks awesome. Good job with the lights. I like it😄
