I recently caught the “car” fever on BlenderArtists, with so many good car renders around. So, I’m going to model one of my favorite cars, the Jeep Rubicon. I’m no expert on cars and/or modeling them, so it’ll take some time until my model will actually start to look like a car
This is my first time modelling a car, so if anyone has some good tips, feel free to share them.
Here’s a render of the grill (forgive me if I’m wrong, I’ve got no idea when it comes to car parts), full and a wire. I probably should’ve started with the hood first, but oh well. The grill doesn’t curve outward, but I’ll do it once I finish the other parts.
I’ve updated the model a bit: Gave it a hood, and also added some of the side to the car.
I’ve sub-surfaced one of the side parts while modelling, but for the other side part, I modeled it without the modifier. (You can see the differences in my wire render.)
For cars, is it better to avoid the sub-surface modifier, as much as possible, to save on poly-count? The Jeep isn’t as streamlined as most modern cars, so I might not need the modifier as much.
A new update: I couldn’t help it, but I’ve gone and added the rims. I modeled some of the back and front of the car, and I also added the threads to the tire, though they might need to be changed. (they’re just textures at the moment)
Hello, here’s another quick update! (pretty short):
I finally curved my grill! I was initially going to edit the each vertex of the piece, but I think using the Deform modifier is easier(for me), and it also gives me an even bend.
@miskolciart: Thanks, and a great suggestion! I’ve combined both of the materials(previous and new), and now I think it looks a lot better. (still under improvement)
I haven’t got much done so far, lots of distractions in the past few days… :spin:
Updates:
Added base for the side mirrors
Added headlights, light bulb, and also the reflector.(I forgot to mirror the reflector to the left side of the car)
I haven’t been able to continue modelling the car, and I still got some issues in and around the vehicle.
However, I got to play around with the material and render settings, so here’s what I have so far:
