does any one know a good way to make a jet engine trail for a still image inside of blender??
Maybe this could help. Just a quick 5 minute hack of course. 
I attached the .blend file instead of a documentation for a better understanding.

Do a search inside the folder for the word “jet”. It doesn’t give you the step by step, but if you don’t understand it then you need to look at the sections on pasticles first. The fire tutorial can be turned into smoke just by changing a few settings.
