Project Title: Escape from Berlin
Studio: CamLab Studios
Type: Freelance / Contract (Paid)
Software: Blender + (Photoshop / Krita / Procreate)
We’re seeking a skilled artist who can master a stylized visual technique combining 3D and 2D artistry, bringing to life cinematic, film-noir–inspired scenes with emotion and atmosphere.
About the Project
Escape from Berlin is based on a true story about a Jewish survivor’s escape from persecution in 1940s Berlin. The film is being developed for the international festival circuit, including the Berlin Jewish Film Festival 2026.
We’re currently defining our visual style — exploring whether the best approach will be fully 3D, 2.5D hybrid, or illustrated sequences that depict each narrated moment in motion. We welcome artists who can help us define and execute that vision.
Your Role
You’ll take a lead position in defining and producing the visual tone of the film. Together, we’ll select and purchase 3D models and kitbash assets, optimizing and stylizing them for the project’s noir direction.
Because the story is based on real people, certain characters will need to be sculpted or modeled to resemble the original individuals while staying true to the chosen style. You’ll have team support for modeling, asset cleanup, and rendering tasks.
This opportunity allows you to:
- Shape the visual language of a festival-bound film
- Build a cinematic, high-quality portfolio while being paid
- Experiment creatively within an established production pipeline
What We’re Looking For
- Strong grasp of lighting, mood, and storytelling
- Experience with NPR shaders, Grease Pencil, or projection mapping
- Ability to merge 2D painterly elements with 3D composition
- Familiarity with kitbashing and model optimization
- Proven portfolio of stylized or hybrid cinematic work
Scope
- Approximately 15+ minutes of content, with about 15 key illustrated or rendered frames per scene.
- Deliverables must be high-resolution and layered for subtle animation integration in Blender.
Please include:
- Your availability (start date & weekly capacity)
- Your rates (per frame, per sequence, or hourly)
- Links to previous relevant work
Additional Note:
We’ll be sharing several image samples that inspired the direction of this film. Please note these are not final visual references — they’re simply a collection of images our producer liked for their lighting, contrast, and emotional tone. The styles vary intentionally and are meant to serve as a range of inspiration rather than a single target look. We’re seeking an artist who can interpret and unify these influences into a consistent, original visual identity for the film.
If this resonates with you and you’d like to help us bring a powerful true story to life, we’d love to hear from you.
