Kakashi Hatake

Not a huge fan but made this for a friend on his birthday, spent a lot of time on researching how to do his weird hair, but still couldn’t figure it out, did it with polygons and still turned out to be the worst part of the image.

Hope you like it

I’m a big fan, though I can’t wait till it ends, its such an investment watching every episode. It does seem like something is a little off, but it’s still very nice, and the detail is spot on.

I am also watching it, recent episode is really disappointing and I am not liking it at all. Let me know if you think something needs a change, glad you like it  .

Really well done, you did quite a good job of making him 3D as it can sometimes be hard

I think the thing that’s getting me is that the hair is to uniformed; I know you’ve mentioned it in your original post, but for an Otaku like me it just throws me off, Shounen anime hair should always look like they just got out of bed, and was too cool to run a comb through it. I’m just nitpicking to be helpful; I really do love it in its entirety.

Thank you Voxelhound, glad you like it.

Database, yes as I said I tried hard but still i am not happy with it either. However I tried to make the hair messy there are 3-4 layers of strands that varies in size and shape, it seems that they look a bit uniformed. Checkout other angles, do you think it is ok in different angles? Or it still needs to be messier? Thank you.

I think where I don’t like it is that it flows to the left, but then you have the left side flowing up, when it should continue flowing wildly to left. I think the hair itself looks really good, it’s just a flow issue. here is an example.

Yeah at first I tried to do that, but it was hard for me to control the flow on far too left, so i went with some stylized interpretation from fan arts like this:

which lean towards left but still mostly straight , which was a bit easier for me. But I will definitely try to create that type of flow.

I know what you mean, I’m finding what I imagine and making it happen are sometimes two hugely different things. It looks really good none the less, I just think when someone watches like 500 episodes it’s hard looking past the original art.

Yes exactly

You did a greta job on him. Inspired me to try my hand at his hair!

Beet Da Brat

I tried particle hair but didn’t work for me, yours looks really good, a little more work and it would be awesome. I have no idea how to do something like that

The model looks great! But yeah the hair is weird, like someone took a hatchet to some bamboo or something. If you don’t want to go with the particle strand look why not just make it look like one solid textured piece? The back and the side look okay. Maybe merge those hair chunks on the top together and then model it to look like the reference drawings.

The model is great, so is the render. People are too much into helmets these days. I am sure they will appreciate your work once that phase is over.

5 stars from me.

Thanks for the suggestions DragonXaos, I will try that.

@Kalinaki , hahaha I see what you did there. Glad you like it, thanks for the comment.

Great render I really like it! Doing a character from any popular source is going to get some critics, but I think you avoided the uncanny valley, 5 stars from me!

That’s true, but those critiques always help get me better so it is fine, thanks.
