Keyboard and mouse recommendation for blender newbie?

What keyboard and mouse would you recommend for someone new to using blender?

Doesn’t matter- one keyboard works just as well as any other for Blender. It’s more important to just use a keyboard and mouse you like than worry about specific softwares

Something that won’t hurt you in the long run. RSIs like carpal tunnel syndrome are serious and I can’t recommend vertical mice + ergonomic keyboards enough.

I understand keyboards and mouse with certain features work best so I want to be sure before making a purchase. I’m looking at this set on amazon but I don’t know if it would be good for the purpose of learning blender

That’s my point- they don’t. You can use whatever works for you generally with Blender. I’ve used Blender on a laptop with a trackpad, a full 110 mechanical keyboard with a 6-button vertical mouse, and everything in between. If you think that looks like a good keyboard and mouse combo, generally, go for it- there’s nothing about it that will it make better or worse for Blender specifically

It looks good to me, I’m using something pretty similar at home and at work…
Some people like to get fancy with gamer mouse and keyboard but if that’s not who you are , basic stuff works perfectly.
The two important things are the numeric keypad and the middle mouse button, that at some point was bad or absent on some mac…

Since your purchase got them both you’re good to go !

I would strongly recommend a cheap Wacom tablet as well, with a 2 button pen, you will not regret it.

(try signing your name with a mouse)

What’s the wacom for?

Dont think too much about it. Its the same as with painting, a better pencil does not make you draw any better.
Think about how much money you want to spend on it. @Sozap is right, make sure its a 3 button mouse and has a wheel. And buy a keyboard that has all buttons. On some of the smaller keyboards the fkeys are not all present sometimes or it has no keypad, that can/will be problematic. Everyrthing else makes it just nicer, I mean things like illuminated keys, or a specific key mechanic or if its cordless, they are not really needed.

Wacom is a brand (there are others), the important bit is a pen and tablet. Drawing, sculpting and even selecting with a pen is sooo much easier and faster than a mouse.

I have a cheap one and could not live without it.

I went with the mouse on that amazon listing. I hope it works properly, which is why I decided to ask in the first place before making the purchase and now it seems like I might have made a mistake haha. Is that a three button mouse on the listing above?

You’re going to be just fine with that mouse and keyboard.

As long as the mouse has a wheel, it has 3 buttons, that’s all you need.

Learning blender doesn’t require fancy hardware. Once you have some more experience you can reevaluate your setup, but you won’t know what you need for your workflow until you have that experience.

Well I also cant find any info about it. Not even on their website, but quite likely it is. I mean there are 2button mice where the mousewheel has no click functionality, but its really not often. If you want to be sure place a question on their site.

Wacom Intuos S for the mouse (or another brand, I hear most of them have caught up with Wacom in terms of quality by now), and a low-profile keyboard so your wrists and fingers don’t have to lift as high. I use this one but you might want one that isn’t TKL (TKL=without numpad) because it’s somewhat useful in Blender.

Haha

there is in fact a “special” keyboad for blender…

…but what do do when something changes ?? Or using the “indistry standard layout” ??

Proberly one of those keyboards with displays in every key…
…but do you reallt need this ?? (and one for the browser, editor , social media platform app…, music player, text editor…)
