King Tiger Cut-Away

@sundialsvc4 - That sub might have been mine. I did a cut-away Type VII U-boat a little while ago.

@RickyBlender - the radios are low res because I’m still blocking out things. Once I get all the parts basically built, I’ll start texturing them. They’ll look a lot better then.

i did my own version for the Fu 5 German radio set
see my thread for WWII in this forum

and also compared it to the US and UK radio for tank com.

may be you can make a better high res model for the Fu 5

have fun

I saw it! I like that you did the wiring to all the additional boxes.

hard to tell which one was the best

but i think the UK was close to the top
very light and small - transceiver type
but did not work with FM modulation

US was so heavy and big but did use FM

don’t know but technologies were moving so fast during WWII

It may well have been your U-boat.

When you look at, via cut-aways, how these weapons systems were constructed, you marvel at how they were ever able to produce them in quantity … and why any soldier or sailor ever dared to crawl inside.

Amazing work, Mark.
I understood what you mean about the principled shader on MM…
Thanks a lot for node setup, very interesting.

i was looking at some old notes and i found this PDF for US WWII colors

might interest you

don’t know if there is one like that for German colors ?

happy cl

Thank you for sharing that! I will stick it with my color reference materials. I have not seen a similar document for German colors.

i will check if i can find some addon to get these colors
but not certain how may palate are available
and may not include the German one

might have the RAL or Old WWII US and UK colors
will check that

Procedural textures can be very useful. Thanks for sharing the link to the tutorial.

Here are the 4 images I used in my track shader…

Whoa, the Tiger II had shock absorbers inside the crew compartment? I had no idea, I’ve somehow never seen them before.
Looks great, the brass textures on the shell casings are really nice.
When working on a vehicle like this, do you use a non-destructive workflow, or generally booleans, bevels and edge loops? Like on the engine grills, my first instinct would be to use booleans.

(…necro but worth reviving cos I’m making one too although solely exterior, biased)

Detailing looks spot on :+1:

Tracks especially however the weld beading all over this thing is it’s unique design signature and a pure PITA getting right

@Chickenbutt_McWatson
I had forgotten about this project. I should probably get back to it. I think I was getting cross-eyed running hydraulic lines and decided to take a break. 3 years is quite a break!

I use booleans to create the cut-away effect. That lets me cut the model any way I want for different renders.

@sacboi
Welds will be a combination of bump/normal maps and probably some actual geometry for some of the bigger more prominent welds.

Thanks for reminding me about this project. I’ll start working on it again.
