this is ‘Klaus’, my Homage to Klaus Kinski - some of you might know this work from >my thread in the WIP forum. Last weekend I decided to texture the shirt and to do some final touches.
I really love the look of ‘Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within’ and so I was trying to >texture him that way. The hair is done using Blender’s current Static Particles and Curve Guides - there are some details and screenshots in the WIP thread. For the skin I applied a subtle fake SSS method >Matt Ebb described (thanks, Matt!). While I was thinking about a background, I remembered ‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’. Although Klaus Kinski did not appear in this classic movie (it’s from 1920 when he was not even born), I think it fits. Hope you like him…
Cheers
Thorsten
Edit (29-April-07): New version using Brecht Van Lommel’s SSS patch for Blender’s internal renderer.
I like this one. The hair and the skin are just fab. Very good likeness of the man. Maybe the render could be a bit more dramatic, like the man himself was. Or so I’ve understood.
BgDM: Haha, yes - I remember your image in the WIP thread. I think it’s just a matter of taste.
Hippie: You are right - it’s just a standard pose and the picture would look more interesting if I would have used the character in a different way. I’ll keep this in mind for my next work.
I’m currently looking for some inspiration to start an animation project. Guess I’ll have to ask Wu for some weird ideas…
I just couldn’t resist and rerendered Klaus using Brecht Van Lommel’s great SSS patch for Blender’s internal renderer (more about it in this thread). This new feature let me get rid of all the coloured lights I used to fake SSS before and gives much better control over light and shadow.
You’ll find the new image in this thread’s first post.
