Kongoyasha

This statue of Kongoyasha Myo-o was created for participation in a 3D printing competition.

Kongoyasha Myo-o is one of the Five Great Wisdom Kings. Once a fearsome demon, known for attacking and devouring humans, it later awakened to goodness through the virtuous power of Dainichi Nyorai. It became one of the guardian deities of Buddhism, representing one of the Five Great Wisdom Kings. It is said to shatter all the various desires and evils of sentient beings in the three realms (past, present, and future) with the Vajra.

Characterized by three faces and six arms, with five eyes on the frontal face, Kongoyasha Myo-o is a unique deity.

For this representation, I chose a more human-like facial expression. Instead of an intimidating stance seen in previous Myo-o statues, it assumes a posture of gently holding the ritual tools, as if about to take a step forward.

Despite the short competition period, the entire sculpture, including the deity, ritual tools, and pedestal, was successfully modeled.

Until February 15, 2024, the STL file can be downloaded for FREE :grinning:

Great work!

I’m curious about the ritual tools. Would you explain their use or meaning?

Thank you😊

From left to right, it’s The “sword”, The ”bow/arrow”, The “vajra chain”, The “vajra pestle”, “vajra bell”.

The “sword” is a tool that wards off difficulties and afflictions. It is said to bring protection from misfortune and calamity just by being nearby.

The ”bow/arrow” is used to shatter ignorance and doubt, guiding one towards truth and enlightenment.

The “vajra chain” symbolizes the state of enlightenment. It represents the gradual linking of extremely subtle elements, symbolizing the practitioner’s process of transcending subtle states and conditions.

The “vajra pestle” is a tool used to crush afflictions.

The “vajra bell” is a bell attached to one end of the vajra pestle. When shaken, it summons the attention of Buddhas and bodhisattvas, delighting them with its sound.
