Lake House: Bringing Low Poly Alive

EDIT: The latest render/preview will always be right here for you ↓

Here’s the final render.

It’s a recreation of a render by @Mohamed_Chahin:

Read more about how it went over on The Blend.

The original is still a bit richer in color and shadow, but I’m happy with my result…almost.

I wanted to change things up.

First, I tried changing the colors. I did an orange version:

Then a frozen, wintry version:

They’re both cool but the original is still my favorite.

Next, I’m going to animate it. I want this little world to feel alive. First thing I’m going to do is figure out how to simulate the smoke.

Ok got a little simulation going. Looking pretty neat, but slow rendering in Eevee.

(Just for viewing. Will use Cycles later.)

What do you think so far?

Here’s what the node tree for the smoke looks like so far.

I couldn’t get it to look nice at all, but then I added a modulo node + a switch node so that it only animates on 2s.

Somehow that made everything work at the correct speed and scale—I need to figure out why

New animation attempt.

Quick Cycles render.

And look, the trees even move!

Did those with shape keys. The smoke is glitchy though—guess GeoNodes for sim doesn’t totally work yet
