When opening older files (from Blender 249.2) in Blender 2.65 the files open with the older layout, can they be set to open with the Blender 2.65 Default layout? Default is not an option offered in the “choose screen lay out” window in the older files. To make sure I am stating this clear. Older files open in Blender 2.65 with Blender 249.2 lay out, I would like them to open with the Blender 2.65 layout.
When you click on File -> Open, look into the panel to the left of the file browser, in the bottom you will see a “Load UI” option.
Disable it and you will keep your 2.65 layout.
edit : while i remember :
When it comes to loading directly a 2.4x .blend file into 2.6x , you will lose nearly all the sculpting brushes (and maybe some other things).
To avoid this, do not File -> Load directly a 2.4x blend, but click on File -> Append
Then in the File Browser select the 2.4x blend , then in the Library list that appear, click on Object
Select in, the object list that appeared, the objects you want to load in 2.6x
This way it will not remove the sculpt brushes.
Thank you that is exactly what I needed to know.
I modeled and textured an interior scene in Blender 2.63 a few days ago. Yesterday I downloaded and installed Blender 2.65 but when I opened my interior scene the wall, floor and ceiling tiles are double sided. When I modeled and and textures the interior I could see through the walls from the outside but can not anymore. What can I do to make the walls transparent again from the outside?
If i understand what you need, try this :
In Edit Mode press N to display the N Panel, scroll down until you see the “Display” tab
In the Display tab, enable “Backface Culling”
Depending on where the normals of your model are pointing you will need now , or not, to select all and click on Flip Direction (in the Toolshelf, the panel to the left of the 3D view) to invert the normals, so the texture show on the correct side of a face (and then the face become transparent on the other side.
Ok, I hit N and checked Backface Culling in object mode and it returned to the way I modeled it, thank you again.
I am finding this problem wit all of my older .blends and it’s really holding up my progress. Here are 2 screenshots of a stilt house that I made a couple of years ago, sorry but there are no textures.
and here is the same mesh in the game engine after hitting P
this same thing is happening to all my textured grasses and leaves on trees
if no one can explain how to fix this problem could you please explain how to post my .blend file so someone can check it out?
Looks like flipped normals. Go into edit mode - select all (a) -> recalculate normals (Ctrl+n).
To upload your blend file you can use pasteall.org
Potshot: try recalculating normals.
could you please explain how to post my .blend file so someone can check it out?

Either attach it to your post, or go to PasteAll.org and hit “upload .blend” there, you can get a link for uploaded file afterwards.
it could also be only shading in viewport !
try to change the lamps location
and see if it changes viewport shadows

I’m in a slightly similar situation. However, I started with Blender 1.76 and dropped out around version 2.2 - partly because the changes were coming so thick and fast that it was hard to keep up (but mainly because the house was infested with teenagers hogging all the computers). Now that everything has settled down I’m re-learning Blender. I found the Inside Out DVD from the Blender e-shop a huge help in getting up to speed again and discovering all the new features.

I have no idea how to do this so I’m trying it this way, Hope this leads to my .blend
normals on model seem ok!
sorry but you forgot to pack the images with the files!
also there is no UV unwrap for the images!
so first you have to do a clean unwrap usable for your images
also you have a strong bluish world light which should be color grey may be!
you also have almost no light set up in there so it will be difficult to have a clear nice render !
this is a 2.49 but it can be open in 2.66
are you worlking in 2.49 or 2.66?
salutations
It’s probably a model made in 2.4x loaded in 2.6x with “Load UI” enabled according to the messed up interface i see in the screenshot (as 2.6x is not able to load the old 2.4x UI correctly, you should load that model with Load UI disabled to keep the 2.6x interface from being messed up).
The normals are indeed correct on the model, so it’s something else that create this odd result
For the problem in itself when pressing P, i noticed that if i switch to Blender Game mode
Then in the Material panel, the Alpha blending setting is set to “Alpha Blend” (by default on a Blender model it is set to Opaque)
Change this setting to something else and press P to see if one of them fix the problem you see.
As i don’t have your textures, if i set the Alpha blending setting to “Alpha Clip” or to “Opaque” and press P i have a correct display.
No idea why this is happening for the other settings
Thank you Sanctuary, I have been going through my old files and setting them to Opaque seems to be fixing the problem so far. I don’t know how this got changed in the first place but I know it started about the time I began testing .blends in the Unity engine.
A few years ago I made this model and rigged her, now for some reason that I can not understand I can not use it. No mater what I try, I can not change her textures. I can add new textures and they show up in a render but not on the model. When I hit P to go into the game engine, she completely disappears. I would like to do some work with this model but can’t figure out what I did wrong or why my textures are not showing on her.http://www.pasteall.org/blend/20210
thanks for taking a look.
also, I have tried appending her into a newer version of blender.
Sorry, I searched for hours on this and only found the answer 5 minutes after posting. Object panel, display. texture
