I might give quixel mixer another try, but most likely I’ll do it all in blender as I am most comfortable there
Started adding some glass and rubber shaders, mix of procedural and image textures (no UV unwrapping though). I’ve started by duplicating my main material, to keep a similar amount of scratches and grunge, and then just tweaking it from there until it looks like glass or rubber instead of old ass painted metal
i hate it when i get stuck behind a tank in traffic that doesn’t turn off their blinkers.
Whoa! damn looks nuts
And unintended or not, that kind of iridescent mauve tinted hue reminds me of a bounced half light effect, sometimes produced off of vehicle armor, you’ll typically see at either dusk or dawn.
This looks pretty incredible! How do you fasten bolts and loops and other odd objects to the body?
I just add them as separate objects, manually
Ok so they’re not merged into the main body mesh?
Nope, in some cases I’ve used Shrinkwrap and DataTransfer to make it look more integrated
Comparison with and without DataTransfer
But most things are just loose parts, but I think the materials help a bit to make the look more connected
I don’t think I’ve heard of data transfer yet but shrinkwrap I am slightly familiar with.
Hey, I have noticed such detail here and I’m wondering how you keep focused on long projects like this and also how you model the circular hatches for the tank and cooling system in the back, and whether you use one model and copy and paste it for the bolts/rivets and or if you are using any addons you find useful. I am trying a project similar to this with a very less detailed abrams tank and I was looking for inspiration and this is what I need.
P.S.
I can’t see where your tank is from (export model or not) and I think it might need some more camo on the barrel. (Hint, hint)
to model detailed things like this in only an hour and a half or less?
I’m wondering how you keep focused on long projects like this
I don’t
I very often start projects and either grow tired of them or consider them done, only to come back to them months or ever years later.
It can be a new version of blender, maybe I’ve found some new reference images or just a random whim that makes me dust off an old project
at least you name yours … mine all have numbers
So true happens to me all the time!
