Let There Be Pirates

I made a pirate themed 3D poster illustration recently based on an old sketch of mine.

I created 3 versions. A colored, a monochrome and a cartoony flat one.

I used everything I have in my arsenal to solve some complicated details.
(thank you community for the tons of things I learned along the way)

Finally here’s the original sketch. I followed its composition very rigorously.

I hope you like it and if you do, check out the project on Behance or on Artstation too:

nice work I really like the cartoon style (the last one) I didn’t know that blender can do it that well at the moment no hints of 3D modeling on them really nice work like in overall and in the modeling

Thanks!
I combined multiple passes from the workbench engine and created the end result in PS.
It’s a great workflow!

I love everything about this! So freaking cool. My eyes keep darting around finding fun little details like the suckerfish with a little suckerfish on top.

I would love to see or hear more about that flat 2d workbench/PS process.

I’m gladly talking about it. But it would be nice to take my time and illustrate it with images.

@bartv would you be interested in an article detailing this process?

That would be great. It could just be 2 or 3 images with a bit of explanation as opposed to a full article. If that’s easier. I’m just curious, it’s such a unique piece.

Thank you for your interest, really.
I’m on holiday now but later next week I’ll write about it.

That would be awesome, no rush. Enjoy your time off.

Do you mean as a Behind the Scenes? Sounds great

In the end I did create the article

Go check it out on Blendernation if you are still interested in the process!
