Lighting increases EEVEE render time drastically

hey guys,

i created a dark, complex jungle scene with glowing mushrooms and a lot of plants etc. as soon as i add lamps to light the scene the render time increases a lot and in my final scene with otherwise optimal settings it takes about 9 mins to render one frame, is there any way to change that? deleting the lamps is not an option for obvious reasons.

Frames: 1598
FACES: 1,117,299
lamps in the scene: 42
Objects: 10,074
sampling: 20
volumetrics: tile size 16px, 20 samples

render time 1 frame with NO lamps: 7 sec.
render time 1 frame with all lamps: 9 mins.

bloom and screen space reflections (refraction, half res trace) has to be turned on.

any solution besides using sheep it?
thx in advance!

Not sure why this is happening… Could it be the shadows? Does it take that long with all the shadows disabled for all the lamps? What about shadows but no soft shadows enabled?

wow thx a lot! with all shadows turned off the render time is down to 8 seconds! (only unchecking soft shadows still took 7 mins)
i think i will turn on the shadows for only the sun to give the scene more depth.

you literally saved my life today :green_heart:

You’re welcome! Remember to use only shadows if they are noticeable to speed up your renders (and if you need them experiment with the light threshold and other shadow parameters).
