Lightsaber Ignition Effect

So today I’ve been working on making a model of lightsaber, I plan to use this to practice some animation. I was wondering if some could assist/inform me on how I would animate it so that the lightsaber ignites. Basically make the blade from appear out the saber handle being turned off to turned on.

Essentially I need to learn/figure out how to make the blue blade grow out of the end of the handle.

You can try keyframing the blade’s scale along the axis of the blade. Also place the shortened blade inside the handle to hide it.
