Hi all, I am new to Blender and 3D modelling, I have been using it about two weeks just getting used to all the tools. Anyway, a few days ago my wife challenged me to make a Little Fat Ninja. So here is the results. His hands need fixing, fingernails, knuckle joints etc, and I need to adjust his eyelids and make hims some throwing stars, nothing major, but still needs doing.
veit - that is not really helpful now is it. which part of the face? Remember this character is exaggerated, so he has hamster chops, and his mask covers the rest of his face. I’m gonna pull his chin out a bit and make it a double chin. The eyes are a work in progress, I am going to work on getting them to look Japanese, change the slant.
I would like more constructive feedback on the face. The eyes are going to go through some changes to make him look Japanese, so I’m not interested in that, but anything else I would like to hear. The Jowls like a hamster are purposeful, and I think they add character. I have defined his chin and made it a double chin, has this helped? Also note that his mask has creases in the material where appropriate.
hi peter18, do you mean the mask opening or another part of his face? Maybe you could take the image and draw on it where you mean and post it back up as an example?
All criticism welcome. I am on a learning curve, and would like to get this polished off before moving on.
Once I sort his face out I’ll do his throwing stars. I had to have his bum-crack showing, that was a must. Also I felt that hooking the strap for his katana sheath around his moob was needed.
Very nice for a first-time model! A suggestion I might add, to show off more of the “fatness”- in your side view, you see that the shirt juts out farther than the stomach? Try doing the opposite, so that his belly Poofs out from his shirt (that’s too tight). I think that’ll add the definition you’re looking for. And, while you’re at it, give him a muffin top too, where his belly pours out over the edge of his pants. Love handles too… Just general fatness-ness…
But it’s up to you, really. What I’d really like to see is a for-real render. Put some big boy pants on! Throw some lighting and actual materials in there! Let’s see what he actually looks like!
But yeah, great job so far. Looking forward to seeing where you take it! Keep up the good work!
EDIT: Also, (just for personal preference) I’d separate the eyes a little more if I were you. But it’s all personal taste.
Thanks for the feedback, I will do a full render once I nail him down. For now I am just ironing out the kinks.
I’m too impatient to wait for a render to do knowing I am not finished with him yet.
I did originally giving him love handles, but being the dwarf he is, it looked wrong, and pulled away from the look I was going for.
Again with the belly over the pants, it does it to some degree here, and I did have the overhang like that originally, but I decided to for a full firm gut, as this is will be his springboard into the air for his flying ninja moves.
I Have been working on the eyes for a bit. I have pulled them further apart since I originally modelled him, I use the whole mouth to eye reference for how far apart they should be. I will play about with them a little more.
I have now done his hands in detail today. I will put up more pics as he progresses.
Just to point something out, I am no artist, I never bothered with drawing much, I was ok at art in school, but never pushed myself further with it. I was more into coding than graphics, being from the Amiga generation, I guess it would have been pixel art anyway. I did study the human form, muscle structure bone structures etc, before even attempting to do this. It helped, although not much is really used, but you can see some of the structure come through.
Right, got the hands to a level I am happy with. I did have to distort the proportian a bit to suit the character, I also know they are not ultra realistic, this is on purpose, as they looked wrong on him so I had to drop some of the things like knuckles and just suggest their presence. His fingers are also a bit square looking, which I can fix by adding more geometry to them.
Right, I did a few quick renders. I have not made a shader for everything yet, I have a skin shader, and on the last one I did a nail shader along with the sword blade.
