Live link mesh deformation

Is there a way to transfer deformation from one mesh to duplicate of itself?
Looking for equivalent of maya blendshape.

blendshapes in blender doesn’t update if the target shape changes unlike maya.
Is there different approach to achieve this?

I tried alt+D but it doesn’t work.

…because not everybody knows about the maya blendshapes… and for blender blendshapes the deformation is usually done on the original object “in/with” the added blend-shape…
It may be simpler to just use the blender version as intended and/but i may also not understand the workflow to use another object for the deformation…

You may have to elaborate this to get a more suited answer.
