Haha I know right! I do not know how effective it is, but imho, it adds a lot to the scene to have each plank separately modeled

Separate plank are “obligatory” in “serious” archwiz. People even randomize height and rotation, just little, little ( values 0.000… :stuck_out_tongue: ).
But in this case I think about general look of wood, good bump/normal textures, and especially roughness/specular. These days to often see wooden floors which look like plastic. Of course these days artificial “wood” panels are common, also natural wood can look plasticy, because of modern varnish. But natural wood look much more … nice, warm, give contrast to metal, glass…
So, if photographers sip motor oil over pancakes, instead of syrup to get this WOOOW look, why 3D artist will hesitate to make his pictures more wooow.
