Loft on an edge

Hi,

I’m not sure if the term is correct, but what I would like to do is achieve the loop around the front window that traces the edge.

I guess I should ask the question.

How do I do this?

Showing the actual mesh of the part you wish to change would make it easier for us than showing the entire model.

I’m gonna make a wild guess and say the knife tool (press K and move) might do the job. There is a ‘Fake Knife’ add-on from Chromoly that gives more control.

Hi, That picture actually isn’t my model, but it is a variation of the model I’m doing.

It’s this selected portion here-

I would like to make a pipe/tube around the front edges.

Ha, I get it now.

If you were using 2.5, it would be easier. Then you could duplicate and separate those edge loops, and convert them into curves (which I believe can’t be done in 2.49). After that you can use a Bezier Circle as bevel for the curve.

In 2.49 you can add the curve to go around the window manually (add Bezier Curve or Bezier Circle)

Thanks, I have 2.49.

Is there a tutorial to the process you mention?

This one shows more than you need:

All you need is the first curve and the Bezier Circle (‘forma’ in the video), which you should add to the curve’s ‘BevelOb’ (as shown around 1:40). Scale the bezier circle to scale the thickness of the entire tube.

Thanks, since this model is going to be placed in a game, do you know how to reduce the polygon count created by the curves?

Ok I found out the answer to my question, the resolution of the Bezeir circle is what I needed to change.

I am interested in this also. Can anyone point to a tutorial using 2.5x? I have have seen 2.4x tutorials on the subject but the workflow and interface seem quite different from 2.5x, correct me if I am wrong.
