So I’m looking for a rigged Sonic the Hedgehog character. I’m thinking of working an animation for the latest pwnisher CG challenge using this character.
Yes, I know I could just google it and probably find something. I’d rather post here and have someone offer me the character instead. That way I know who helped me and if I make any changes/improvements to the character, I could give that back to whoever helps. Also, I’d rather just exchange files with someone rather than sign up for an account someplace just to download 1 model.
Hi @Alesuav, thanks for the reply! That’s a good looking Sonic character, but it’s not rigged for animation. I did find one on sketchfab that was rigged, but like I said, I’d rather have someone give me a character. That way I’d know the artist that created it and could give back to them in the form of any improvements I make to it. However, I decided to change directions on this, see below.

For this challenge, there is a ‘template’ that you need to follow. I thought the one action (there are 5 actions to choose from) would be great for Sonic the Hedgehog. After blocking things out a bit and looking at it further, I realized this was a bad idea. Have a look -
After looking at it, I just didn’t think that Sonic the Hedgehog was a good fit for this. I just don’t think that action would look good for Sonic. Having spent hours playing the original Sonic on a Sega system when it first came out, I was feeling like I wouldn’t be true to the character. This is mocap action, not spinning turbo legs like Sonic. So I decided to go a different route with a different character.
As I’m wirting this post, I’m also rethinking my idea. While it wouldn’t be true to the original game animations, maybe it would work…
Well, I was thinking that way as I wrote my last post, but no, I don’t want it. Part of me thinks it could work, part of me doesn’t think it could work. I sometimes have this problem where I flip-flop on ideas like this and can’t make up my mind. Doesn’t happen often, but I hate when I get 2 competing ideas in my head.
You are correct about what wins these challenges. TBH, I don’t stand a chance of winning or even placing in the top 100, but it is a challenge, and I like challenges. This is more of a skill building excercise for me.
I’ve decided to go with these characters and I’ll be posting up a WIP soon.
