Hello fellow peeps, I am currently making an anime-type game character and I recently finished with the retopology for the torso, and due to it being my first time doing retopology id like to know what others think about it and where I could improve upon it.
Welcome to BA This looks awesome, you’ve done really good work here. I’m jealous of your ability to make nicely defined muscle groups, I really struggle with that personally and would love to learn more about your workflow.
One small topological note: the back of the neck feels like a strange place to have a patch like this:
That’s a very high deformation area, so you want as clean of topology as you can possibly get there. You have some tris mixed with your quads in that patch, and I honestly don’t think that patch is adding anything. I would dissolve it and just have a nice clean quad grid there
I agree, in the screenshot it looks like triangles, but the entire Model is in quads, no tris or ngons anywhere. I figured i use a patch there to create detail for this thingy here, i think its called the 7th cervical vertebrae
Oh, and as for the my workflow: I use alot of reference material and for the most muscle groups I create edge loops according to the flow of the muscles. For example on the back the edge loop around the scapula and the edge loop defining the latissimus muscle. My biggest problem was filling out between the edge loops, which is why there are alot of 5 edge poles at the back.
One essential reference i used was the CG Cookie video about torso topology. I hope this helps!
