We’re a small production studio that does practical effects and live entertainment projects, typically involving miniatures, mascot characters and puppets. The digital artists we work with design cool things, and our small, but mighty team of artists and technicians build and bring them to life in our workshop so they can be used in web videos, commercials and - when the pandemic is over - live events.
We have a Blender-based design workflow and we’re currently looking for one or more Blender Artists to work with on a freelance, recurring/ongoing basis. We’re looking for character and concept designers, as well as 3D modellers, or artists who do both. Right now we’re specifically in need of someone to help us with robots, sci-fi props and other hard surface modelling, although we’re always interested in getting to know versatile artists who can work in a variety of different styles.
You should have intermediate to advanced level skill in Blender, and an existing portfolio that demonstrates the range of work you do. It’s crucial that you are comfortable designing 3D models with good topology that can be easily utilized in digital fabrication processes (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, etc.). A working knowledge of current 3D printing technology is extremely helpful. Prior experience using Blender as part of a workflow to create costumes and props for cosplay, film or television is a definite bonus.
We expect to have anywhere from 2-5 projects on the go over the next three months. We usually need fairly fast turnaround on projects, typically 2-4 working days unless it’s something especially complex. The budget for each project varies, but we pay within industry norms based on an artist’s level of experience and geographic location.
