Loop cut basically runs through whole mesh

Hello! Trying to model kunai as a whole piece for practice. And after connecting torus or modelling the ring at the start of the handle loop cuts started to loop around the whole object and I cant move them.

What is the “rightest” way of solving this problem? Tutorials on good topology do not make it quite clear for me.

Well… that’s pretty much the definition of a loop cut… cut along the whole loop… and if you have a loop in this direction…

…or just add some details and maybe use bevel modifier for a “high poly” version for backing normals…
