Los Angeles Blender Community

Hello Westside Blenderheads!

Saturday February 9th is the date of our next LA.Blend Westside MeetUp event.

Last month’s MeetUp format was great, with good sessions and decent turnout (and we’ll do that again soon). However, this month our MeetUp will be more social and entertaining with drinks, food, and Oscar Animated Shorts. Here’s the plan:

Date: Saturday, February 9th
11:30a-2:30p – Social Meetup at Plan Check
Bar/Restaurant, 1800 Sawtelle Boulevard, West Los Angeles, CA 90025. Drinks and snacks will be provided. There’s an inside room off the main dining area that fits around 12 and we’ll nab it at 11:30a when the venue opens, late arrivals are OK. Agenda is mainly social but naturally we can’t help talking Blender. If you have something to discuss that doesn’t a need sophisticated A/V setup, please ping me an email and we’ll absolutely add it to the agenda.
2:40p – Oscar Animated Shorts are showing just 5 mins walk away at the wonderful Nuart Theatre, 11272 Santa Monica Blvd. West Los Angeles, California, 90025. The 2:40p showing is the first show of the day and thus discounted to $8.50 per person. Tickets can be bought in advance online, for a $1 surcharge.

http://www.productionpipelineexpo.com/
I’ve bought a ticket (currently at early bird pricing) for Sat. the 4th, PM me if you’re going!

Hello All - I wanted to remind everyone that due to venue security restrictions, RSVP via providing your details on the Surveymonkey link is required. Please do so prior to the event (thanks to those who have done so already) and we’ll see you there!

The Westside meeting is shaping up quite nicely for tomorrow. For those who can’t make it physically you can still be involved over IRC chat.
Our room/channel is #lablender on freenode.net IRC.

If you don’t know much about IRC chat or don’t have a chat client, just go to http://webchat.freenode.net/ and fill in the blanks for simple web browser based access. Look for my name, it will be some variation of JTA. Type it in the line somewhere and when you press enter/send I will be alerted that you are in the room.

See you there or in chat!

People who have RSVP’d have been emailed information on venue access and other details.

Thanks

The location of this event is now in Hollywood. PM me if you’ll be there. I’d love to connect.

Hey all, If anybody wants to help plan events for the 2013 SIGGraph Anaheim conference through the OC group let me know. I put a small project management system up on the OC Blender Users animation collaboration PM site. We can do some awesome planning on this cool little site. It includes project/task completion status, sub-tasks, forum posts, email blasts and file management. So let me know and I will set you up with a login.
As usual, a lot is going on behind the scenes so stay tuned and plugged in for details.

The pizza in Pasadena meeting went very well. The venue was great. Well…except for the screaming baby next to us for a few minutes in the beginning, lol… The meeting ended up being fun and informative so we will do another one soon.

Anywhose, a few companies and studios showed up looking for people to hire with Blender skills. I will have the meeting notes posted soon.

Thanks again for all those who attended and you missed out if you couldn’t make it so we will do it again soon!
