Low FPS on preview of the video editor

Hello guys, i’ve been confused with the low FPS at the playback (5-15 fps) and i came across this solution of using proxies.

  1. how can i increase fps in preview so the video would be plausible ?
  2. what is a proxy ??

Create low-quality temporary video files to facilitate editing.
(There is no loss of the original video)

I think the video below explains it well. :slightly_smiling_face:

the video was very helpful,thanks
btw, can i use all of my ram in playback (i mean setting 16384 mb rather than the default 4096 mb on memory cache limit because my laptop is 16 gb ram) is it going to harm the ram since i’m not going to let the laptop do any other calculations on the ram ?

Regarding the video editing of blender, I don’t know the exact RAM usage. I don’t think you’d use a lot of memory for video editing in general.

The reason for using proxies is that the speed of processing of the hardware does not meet the requirements of the operation. It’s not a matter of RAM.

what overwrite do in proxy ??

I don’t know exactly.
If you’re thinking of creating a multi-percentage proxy file, maybe you’re canceling it, but if not, maybe you’re applying it and using it.
