Low poly hair

Hi everyone. So I’m working on some characters that need some hair and I don’t want to use hair particles because they are too cumbersome and hard to deal with at times. These characters need to be moderately realistic but also need to be able to move, so I needed to try a good alternative to the hair particles and went for poly hair.

This is my very first time trying this out and I was wondering if there are some tips on how to make this a bit more realistic, less jaggedy and just overall better looking. How do people fill in the space underneath the top layer so that it doesn’t look like a whole bunch of planes sticking out of the head? Any help would be appreciated.

(this was just me testing it out for the first time…pretty ugly I know…)

check this out.

Heres a guy that does a pretty dang good job of modeling polygon based hair…

fast forward into the tutorial to about 1:00:00 and thats where he starts working on the hair…
I really like watching this guy model… he always comes up with something new and interesting…

Awesome thanks dukejib! Norvman, I’d love to watch it but the link is broken :(.

Norv’s link (he had double http’s) – and I agree, this guy rules. Always just dropping gems everywhere.

Great, thanks I’ll check it out!

@ blenderallday…

thanks guy… I have to always watch that close… I can never tell when it does that why it does that… I try to use the link button… but seems like it messes it up sometimes… and I haven’t figured out if it’s something I’m doing on my end to cause that… anywayz…

Yeah, you’d think the parser would catch it and delete it. I’ve done it a couple times.
